Formal Copperplate (Calligraphy) With Anthea Power
Saturday 31st July
Important COVID19 Information regarding instore workshops here
Spend a day learning the glorious Calligraphic hand of formal Copperplate, the script used by the handwriting masters of the 18th Century, still used today when true elegance is required in social correspondence, invitations etc. This beautiful flowing script is written with a pointed pen and has given rise to the popular and freer hand of Modern Calligraphy. You will be guided through exercises which prepare you for the angles, strokes and movements of this script. You will learn the pressure and release technique which creates the stunning contrast of the thick and thin strokes. We will also look at how putting different paints through the nib and writing on coloured paper enlarge the scope of how you can make this script your own. We can also look at how to address a formal envelope for an invitation to a social event.
