“Join Danielle in this Masterclass and gain all of the skills required to create beautiful Calligraphy and Brush lettering. Capture your favourite quotes, elegantly address an envelope, design your own artwork using this sought after skill.”

Day one: Danielle will Introduce students to calligraphy with a pointed, flexible nib and oblique penholder, beginning with tips and tricks on preparing your nib and the best supplies to use for various different projects. Modern Calligraphy has its roots in English Roundhand/ Copperplate calligraphy, so you will begin this course by learning and practicing the fundamental basic strokes that create the minuscule alphabet. With Danielle to guide you through the steps, you will spend some time doing drills until you feel comfortable with the strokes and will then be taught how to connect them to form words. Modern Calligraphy is a beautiful cursive script and once you feel confident connecting your letters you will start to learn the majuscule alphabet. Finally, to complete the day,  you will learn to mix your own-coloured ink and lay out a quote or address an envelope.

Day two: On the second day you will build on the skills you have learned, switching from your nib and ink to a brush pen. The same strokes practiced on day one, can be combined to create brush lettering. We will spend time trying our different brush pens and experimenting with different styles of alphabet. Danielle will provide you with work sheets and guide sheets which you can also take home to continue your practice with. In the afternoon we will continue to experiment by trying a paint brush to create brush lettering. Students will be given time to work in various medias and have a go at creating their own calligraphy artwork. Finally, advice will be given on supplies and tools for bigger projects such as chalk boards and signs.

By the end of this masterclass, students will be confident in forming a modern script and playing with a selection of lettering styles, ready to continue their practice at home and embark on their first of many projects! We hope to see you there!
