Illuminated Manuscript With Gold Leaf With Janie Pirie (Cambridge)
Have you ever looked at those beautiful Medieval capital letters on old manuscripts and wondered how they were made? Join us to learn how to create your own stunning piece of Illuminated lettering. There will be a selection of letters for you to choose from, but if you would like to bring your own you are welcome to do so, as not every letter of the alphabet will be available. You can find lots of ideas by Googling Illuminated Letters on your computer. The letter you produce will be no larger than 4in.sq. We will trace the letter/design and learn how to apply the mordant (glue) before laying down the gold (or silver) leaf. We will then colour the rest of the design using either watercolours or coloured pencils.
